F.A.Q.’s / Questions & Answers:

0)does rhino.io run under new Cinema4D v12?

> yes it does already, just download the new plugin, re register with your new v12 serial if you had one for v11 already (no extra cost)

1) can i use one rhino.io license on several CINEMA 4D installations?

> No, this is not allowed or possible. the rhino.io license is connected to the main CINEMA 4D serial number. so for 2 CINEMA 4D work places / serials, you needed 2 rhino.io licenses. If You need more than 1 rhino.io license there will be a volume reductions, depending on volume count.

2) will rhino.io bring nurbs capabilities directly into CINEMA 4D? will CINEMA 4D have a built in nurbs objects with the plugin?

> No, this is not possible. cinema4d has no tool set at all in its sdk to have nurbs objects inside.

therefore all nurbs objects that are imported will get transformed to CINEMA 4D native polygon objects, to be able to be used in CINEMA 4D and to be rendered and animated, identical as they would render in Rhino direct. The render meshes from Rhino produce very clean results, and rhino.io takes all nurbs surface information into a so called “normal tag”. this tag will make any imported polygon render identical to its original nurbs object.

3) Do i then to have tessellate all before i save the 3dm file for CINEMA 4D?

> no you have actually to do nothing more than once view the model in ogl mode shaded, ghosted or rendered. all the rest is done by rhino.io. it extracts the rhino native meshes which are stored in all Rhino files, once you view the model in Rhino interface in these modes. Rhino itself uses also the same meshes for rendering and ogl.

4) what is if i do not like the meshes for some reason on one object, can i set the way rhino produces these “internal render meshes”?

>Yes, you can click on the object, and under object info set a custom mesh tessellation setting. this is a very handy tool.

5) i have meshes AND nurbs in my Rhino model, will rhino.io be able to import this file without loss?

> yes, also in the rhino.io import options you can set if you wish to import mesh only, nurbs only, or both.

6) is there a difference to obj, 3ds or dxf import in quality? i had always problems, mesh artifacts  with those?

> yes, in our testing, the use of the Rhino render meshes with normal tag, produced far superior models on import. in fact we had found no single  imported rhino.io object that had a mesh artifacts. (sometimes for very complex objects you may  want to refine the auto generated mesh with the rhino object info. but this is also very easy done). rhino.io 100% eliminated all the import/  export/ mesh tessellation  pain we had in former times between rhino3d and c4d.  we ourselves use rhino and c4d since longer time, therefore the idea for the plugin).

7) does rhino.io work with all MAXON CINEMA 4D bundles are special editions?

> yes. in fact it works even with Bodypaint (this is identical to CINEMA 4D base technically). also the architectural bundle, the engineering bundle, the base, xl and studio bundle versions are supported by rhino.io

8) does rhino.io produce objects that are compatible with 3rd party render engines like VRAYforC4D or Maxwell?

> yes. we use it indeed all time with 3rdparty engines, mostly VRAYforC4D, but also Maxwell. the imported objects are native CINEMA 4D objects after import.

9) can i update my imported rhino.io model in CINEMA 4D when i changed something in Rhino later on?

> yes, you can. by using the merge command, rhino.io will import a new “rhino.io node” (group containing the new version with same structure), you can then easy move the material signed from the old model version to the new.

10) i have some questions that are not here under FAQ’s, can i ask somewhere more details?

>yes, simply call us or write us an email,  our contact coordinates are in section “contact/imprint”
